Briefkästchen

Landgrafenstraße 166, 44139 Dortmund

After having only spoken over the phone, Anja is all smiles as we meet for the first time in person. The dinky pub is crowded, Anja invites us to take a seat in a cosy corner area and have a drink together. A small beer for me while Anja settles for a Pepsi Zero Max. She knows many of her guests on a personal level, they hug, they call on each other over people’s heads.

For 12 years now she has run the Briefkästchen and every inch is jam-packed with memories. The Briefkästchen (little post box) itself is a shrine, with its scarfs, flags and jerseys and trophies. Anja points at an official letter from the city of dortmund, hanging on the wall: even the head mayor, Thomas Westphal, came to her pub twice to watch football. If you are looking for a pub with lots of personality and a cosy atmosphere, the Briefkästchen is spot-on.
